Orthodontics

Periodontics is the branch of dentistry that deals with diseases of the gingival tissue (gums) and supporting structures of the tooth.

Periodontal problems start with a stage called gingivitis, an inflammation of the gums which, if left unchecked and untreated, can over time end in a periodontal disease.

Periodontal disease involves destruction of the tissues that support the teeth, with the formation of periodontal pockets (spaces between the gum and the bone) in which bacteria are able to proliferate and constantly to exacerbate the disease which, in its advanced stages, can even lead to tooth loss.
